My Story
1985: An Astute at Age 10
While in Jammu, a young Abhijit Verma embarked on a visionary quest at the tender age of 10. His heart was filled with dreams and his first venture was a joint venture with his friend involving renting comic books for Rs.1 a day to his classmates. This marked a humble beginning that ignited the fire of entrepreneurship.
1987: Embracing Opportunity
With each passing year, Abhijit’s entrepreneurial spirit soared. In 1987, when the family moved to Varangaon, Maharashtra, the 12 year old Abhijit ventured into the world of VCP rentals, capitalizing on the demand of the legendary movie Shahenshah. It was here that his journey truly took off, and he began to realize the boundless potential of his dreams.
1990: The Pursuit of Greatness
The Verma family’s relocation to Jabalpur marked a turning point. Determined to achieve greatness in a new and bustling city, young Abhijit explored a myriad of opportunities. He sought to make a lasting impact, eagerly embracing challenges and innovations.
1996 - 1998: Jaypee Hotels & Resorts
Abhijit started his career with a summer training at Jaypee Hotels & Resorts. He eventually got promoted to Assistant Sales Manager. It was during this time that he conducted surveys on the bustling streets, connecting with people and markets, and discovered that his target audience was from Punjab. His strategic acumen transformed the Punjab market, becoming a pivotal contributor to revenue.
1999: Sarovar Hotels & Resorts
Venturing into Bangalore with just a suitcase and Rs. 5000 of company advance, Abhijit faced a formidable challenge. Undaunted, he went on re-establishing sales operations in South India, demonstrating his resolute spirit.
2001 - 2004: Angsana Spa & Resorts
Joining Angsana, Abhijit spearheaded the Indian Sales & Marketing function, leaving an indelible mark as he weaved a corporate and channel network across the vast landscape of India.
2004 - 2005: IIM Calcutta & OPG Infotech
Committed to his personal and professional growth, Abhijit pursued higher studies in the executive course of General Management at the prestigious IIM Calcutta, honing his skills for the journey ahead. At the time, Abhijit had founded an HR and outsourcing venture named OPG Infotech marking his initiation into the world of entrepreneurship.
2006 - 2008: Liberty Whiteware Ltd.
Abhijit set the stage for Liberty Whiteware’s success, meticulously constructing processes and systems that benefited internal and external customers. Post this period, he also ran a consulting business doing a couple of assignments at Bright Bridge Advisors.
2008: SNG Group Co., Ltd
During the recession, Abhijit’s financial acumen came to the forefront in SNG Group, a New Delhi based Developer. Along with developing a 100 acre township in Dharuhera, Haryana and a 5 Lakh Sft Mall in Greater Noida, he also managed cash flows, orchestrated fund management, and skillfully right-sized the organization, guiding it through the storm of economic downturn.
2010 - 2013: The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group
Navigating through his health challenges, Abhijit continued his journey and joined The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group. As he oversaw regional sales and marketing responsibilities, he endured personal trials, hoping for his health to improve.
2013 - 2015: BNC Pvt Ltd
Amidst the turmoil, Abhijit launched a social venture focused on food, agriculture, and improving the lives of farmers in North Karnataka. He traveled to more than 900 villages and selected Gulbarga district as his area of operation (which was suffering from drought for the last four years at the time). His heart, once on the brink of despair, now beats for a noble cause.
2015: The Ultimate Challenge
In 2010, Abhijit faced his most formidable challenge yet—a life-threatening heart condition while he was preparing for a half marathon, which prompted him to relocate back to Bangalore. Despite the daunting odds, he demonstrated remarkable resilience and unwavering determination.
2016: A Transformation of Heart and Purpose
Abhijit’s life took a dramatic turn when he realized a heart transplant was his only chance at survival. Choosing to invest his wealth in others, rather than for his health and family, he faced substantial financial and emotional hurdles during the transplant.
2017 - 2018: Machani Group
After his life-saving heart transplant, Abhijit faced both physical healing and a substantial debt burden. Struggling to secure employment, he eventually found his place at the Machani Group. He orchestrated an impressive revival in sales operations, leaving an indelible mark by developing 132 apartments of 3500 Sft in their luxury apartment project, Svasa – located in South Bangalore.
2018 - 2022: Avigna Group
Abhijit’s leadership at Avigna Group marked his entry into the realm of industrial and logistic parks. Under his guidance, the development of Avigna Industrial & Logistic Parks, a colossal project spanning 3 millions of square feet, reshaped landscapes and economies.
2022 - Present: Writing a New Chapter
With a cause of uplifting communities and enriching the life of farmers, Abhijit is now embarking on new ventures – Avinya Industrial & Logistic Parks, AA Holdings and The Capital Chip, etching his legacy in the books of entrepreneurship.
